Dreams & Memories
Flatlands, wetlands, rivers and swamps are where I have gone for fun. With a long gaze life’s constraints relax, there are few limits. Uncertainty is exhilarating and not frightening. Photographing all this seemed easy and obvious. Results were short of expectations. Something was lacking.
One day in mid-2020 I allowed a camera to move a bit while making an exposure. A softness emerged that seemed much closer to how I recall and see places in my mind. Memories and dreams are selective, and what is inessential is cleared away from what matters. Space that remains is room for reconstructing how we experience and feel what we remember; in dreams, that space holds experiences we hope to experience. I began to make more images in this manner to help me - who’s been there - to recall, relive and preserve my memories of those places.
